In 2009 and 2019, JAA prepared research briefs for Mozambique's annual Private Sector Conference (CASP), and JAA’s Executive Vice President and served as invited speaker. The 2009 presentation introduced approaches to building business competitiveness.
In 2013, JAA examined the potential issues for the Mozambican economy arising from Mozambique’s resource boom. JAA prepared an assignment report that presented issues for several sectors (agribusiness, tourism, manufacturing, logistics), and an agenda for further investigation.
The 2019 activity examined competitiveness and growth challenges in Mozambique. JAA investigated the impact of “Dutch Disease” and “Resource Curse” on economic sectors, including the tourism, agriculture and manufacturing sectors, and conducted an assessment on labor markets. The brief emphasized the imperative of structural transformation to sustainably reduce poverty all require much higher levels of productivity in the agricultural sector and the economy generally. JAA prepared a keynote presentation focused on opportunities and concrete steps to competitively exploit Mozambique’s vast agricultural potential and methods to address competitiveness challenges, while also taking into consideration the consequences of its natural resources boom and the possibility of Dutch Disease.
